Our wedding is off of the waterfall highway (Highway 138), and this highway runs along one of the most beautiful rivers in the PNW - The Umpqua River. There are many waterfalls to explore, but we are including some favorites with short hikes, and big pay offs, as well as a longer hike for the more adventurous.
Toketee Falls
.8 miles to the overlook, 171 feet of gain
From Alltrails: This trail takes you to a beautiful waterfall over basalt cliffs into a wave-tossed pool. Toketee Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in all of Oregon, renowned far and wide for the graceful columnar basalt formation framing the two-stepped falls. The North Umpqua River has carved a sinuous gorge out of the lava flow, resulting in a waterfall of 113 feet in height - a 28 foot upper tier which plunges into a pool flanked by a deep alcove, followed by an 85 foot plunge into a large pool.
Watson Falls
.8 miles to the falls 433 ft. of gain
From Alltrails: Watson Falls is the third highest waterfall in Oregon at 272 feet. It is the most beautiful waterfall along the North Umpqua River Valley. You will cross a wooden bridge below the falls that will put you right into the lower rapids with an amazing view of the falls as they roar over the basalt lava cliffs ahead
Lemolo Falls
3.4 miles 383 feet of gain
Recommend starting from the While Mule Trailhead. Please Research this trail if you plan to do it, as there is a different approach from a lower viewpoint that is much more challenging. Check out this link for best instructions on how to get to the correct trailhead.
Crater Lake National Park is one of the most stunning features of this area. Crater Lake was formed in a caldera after Mt. Mazama volcano erupted, and literally "blew its top off". It is a "not to miss" site if you are traveling to this part of Oregon for the first time. Even in June, snow levels can still be deep at Crater Lake, so the North Entrance, which is closest to our venue may not be open yet. Check Crater Lake's website for details on the entrance to take to the park.
If you want to experience the magic of the Oregon Coast, the closest coastal town to Roseburg is Bandon, OR, and it happens to be one of the Oregon coast's best towns. We recommend checking out the iconic Face Rock while you are there, in addition to any of the waypoints and pulloffs along the coast highway 101. North of Bandon is Coos Bay, of which Shore Acres State park is of great note, and south of Bandon is Cape Blanco State Park, which has been Steph's home away from home for many years since moving here.
Face Rock State Viewpoint - Bandon, OR
Shore Acres State Park - Coos Bay, OR
In addition to some of the most incredible rock formations along the coast and some of the biggest waves to watch crash into the rocks, the park also has a beautiful botanical gardens to meander through. It is far worth the $5 parking fee.
Cape Blanco State Park - Port Orford, OR
It can be windy here, so bundle up. Through the campground to the south of the lighthouse is access to the South beach where people rarely are. To the north of the lighthouse is part of the Oregon coast trail, and great tide pools in low tide.
All photography on this page is Steph White Clark's work, and from it, you can tell how much we love this place we call home. These suggestions are pretty much due west or due east of our venue, but if you are traveling from far away, we highly recommend using our wedding as an excuse to explore this incredible state. Some further away places that can be accessed within a day include the Redwoods to the south, Silver Falls State Park to the north, Bend, OR and the Desert to the west, including such places as the Painted Hills and Blue Basin in the John Day Area. When we say this place is magical, it really, truly is, and it does our hearts good to share this place with you all.
